I gotta be honest. I like the idea of
Jim Wallis more than I like him in the real world. I've read 3 of his books and I agree with about half of what he has to say. And I unsubscribed from the email list because I got freaking tired of getting anti-Iraq war emails 10 times a week (and I'm no fan of the war, either).

But I do think he's good for the public discourse...

Sorry... didn't mean to leave John's comment hanging! I've been a longtime fan of Sojourners & Jim Wallis, but I have to balance it with real life. I attended the Pentecost Conference in 2006 (listened to Obama, marched to the Capitol, talked with Congress(wo)men, the whole shebang...). I enjoyed it, but it wasn't enough. Last year I opted for the CCDA conference instead, though I received several personal emails from SoJo staffers to come back. SoJo & CCDA actually share several board members and multitudes of supporters, but CCDA is more grassroots and day-to-day fleshing out. This year I scrapped them both for a Eureka Springs writing retreat. I find myself slowly moving in the Wendell Berry direction (though, I confess, his books are still on my shelf waiting to be read)... but I think there is a time and a place for all of the levels of pursuing justice.
